Anime hairstyles and hairstyles have different ideas.
Before painting the hair, it is good to understand the shape of the head and hair, as shown in the examples below. It can be beneficial to start painting your head before painting your hair, especially if you are a beginner.
The head shape in anime and manga is usually very close to the actual head shape but may vary depending on the style.
The head can be drawn in a small oval shape (usually less than the actual head). Looking forward, the top of the head is close to half a circle.
In this lesson, we will not draw different facial features with other head parts as that is already integrated into further studies.
Since anime hair is a simplified version of natural hair, it is a good idea and basic idea of how hair grows. The example above is with the male head, but the same can apply to the female lead.
Anime hair is often styled into clusters similar to natural wet hair.
Draw short hair (both male and female) and stand out near the pattern of the hair on the top with small bumps at the end. Draw lumps that point slightly at each other, and some are far apart to look natural.
Drawing medium-length or long anime hair is like drawing short hair but drawing hair into huge pieces. You can also think of sideburns as separate parts over the topsides and back hair for long hair.
The example above will show the hairline as the hair is pulled back / cut back. So you can also see why knowing the basic shape of the hair is essential.
When painting the hairline, draw lines to make it look natural (real hair does not fit perfectly).
They can almost look like a helmet for well-cut hair (such as the famous “hime cut” as an example commonly used in various anime and manga). To make the hair look a little more natural, draw some split ends in the lower hairline as it shrinks.
To get the pigtails to draw some lines around the pigtail tail to show that the surrounding hair is pulled to the side of the pigtail. With many pigtails, you can draw a split line on the hair where the hair pulled in different ways meet (for example, looking back at this).
Draw curly pieces of anime hair like a fountain. Short sections of curly anime hair tend to pull like normal hair or with some light curls. We will also draw slightly curly hair at the end in this example.
